Looking forward to the Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Teacher Academy on September 13!

This Thursday, September 13, I’ll be attending the Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Teacher Academy, presented by TCEA and led by Miguel Guhlin. An excerpt from the registration page:

“You will get the opportunity to explore tools such as Office Online, OneNote Class Notebooks, Microsoft Forms, and Sway, including how to provide your students with learning experiences beyond the four walls of your classroom using Skype in the Classroom and the Microsoft Educator Community.”

2018 TCEA Microsoft Professional Learning Opportunities

Goals before the workshop include:

  1. Learning more about the products themselves and what they can do for K-12 spaces and also for higher education spaces and the intersection of the two in teacher preparation. This involves surfing the web and browsing research databases.
  2. Drafting a few ideas to take into the workshop so I can ask targeted questions about the possibilities of specific tools.
  3. Consider my broader goals for teaching and how these tools align with that.

Some of my own personal goals for the workshop include:

  1. Learning more about Microsoft tools for my own productivity and digital skills in my everyday work as an academic and (online) teacher educator.
  2. Expand knowledge to prepare future teachers to use these same tools and effectively integrate the knowledge into my courses, especially for preservice teachers.
  3. Consider ways these tools might be used by faculty at UT Arlington to foster virtual teamwork, communication, productivity, and beyond.
  4. Meet other educators and also share ideas.

Some of my goals for after the workshop include:

  1. Follow up with presenter and anyone met at the workshop.
  2. Plan ways to integrate tools and concepts into my own work and with teacher preparation.
  3. Consider ways the ideas and tools align with the ISTE standards for preservice teachers.
  4. Talk to other colleagues informally about learning
  5. Blog here!

Stay tuned!
